A WOMAN rushed to the rescue of a fox cub that made its way into the sea off Ryde.
Ryde Inshore Rescue were called to the scene by a concerned member of the public who saw the fox and the woman enter the water just to the east of Ryde Harbour, shortly after 11am.
When the rescue team arrived, the woman and fox were safely on dry land.
The fox has been taken to Green and Forster Veterinary Surgery on Carisbrooke Road and is being treated for water ingestion.
A spokesperson for Ryde Inshore Rescue said: “It is not unusual to see foxes on the beach.
“You see them down there every now and then chasing seagulls.
“The wife of one of our crew men works in a veterinary surgery, so she made some calls to find the on duty vet.
“The fox is being treated and we are waiting for updates of his welfare.
“We can now add him to the list of dogs, horses, seals and a whale that we have rescued.”
