IT WAS a day to remember for the hundreds of fundraising Islanders who donned their trainers and running gear to take part in the Simplyhealth Great South Run yesterday (Sunday).
Saturday's Junior and Mini Great South Run and the 5km run were cancelled due to poor weather, but the famous ten mile event in Portsmouth and Southsea went ahead as planned with 450 adult Islanders taking part in a field of over 20,000 runners.
Among those who signed up were staff from Earl Mountbatten Hospice and top Island skater, Keelin Scholes, from Newport.
Last year, the same number of runners from the Island raised many thousands of pounds for worthy causes.
In its 28th year, the run featured charity 'cheering' points, boost zones, bands on the run and plenty of vocal support from residents and spectators.
Starting and finishing on Clarence Esplanade in Southsea, the course took runners through Old Portsmouth, before they entered the Historic Dockyard and on to Winston Churchill Avenue, before they made their way back towards Southsea Common and completing the final two miles along the seafront.
