A STREET fight is now thought to have been the cause of a broken Cowes shop window — not a smash and grab raid.
Blood left at the scene was analysed by police after it was initially believed display items had been stolen from the window of Number One Fragrance and Accessories in Birmingham Road between Wednesday night and Thursday morning last week.
Owner Kay Read said: "The first I knew the window had been smashed overnight was when a girl on her way to school very kindly phoned and told me.
Glass went everywhere in the shop but I cleared up and stayed open.
"I initially believed five pairs of size 5 funky wellies, exclusive to my shop, were taken together with window display dummy boxes of perfume.
"I later discovered that a Good Samaritan had seen the window had been broken and removed the items for safe keeping so they would not be stolen.
"I have also rewarded the schoolgirl for her kindness with a gift voucher."
