SANDOWN Bay Academy students are staging a protest against the closure of the school's sixth form.
As reported by the County Press last week, the sixth form will close when the school teams up with The Bay Primary School to become an 'all through school'.
Year 11 students are standing outside the school today (Wednesday) in protest of the closure.
A student told the County Press: "Us students of Sandown Bay Academy are protesting to keep the sixth form open as we have been left with no sustainability for our post 16 education.
"Despite teachers telling us to move, we're three hours in and going strong."
Update
A Sandown Bay Academy spokesperson said: "Students in Year 11 at Sandown Bay Academy have shown their disappointment at the potential closure of the sixth form at Sandown, by conducting a peaceful protest on the playing field.
"Many of the students protesting have taken work out with them in order to continue their studies in advance of their examinations.
"Earlier on today, Year 11 students were given advice about the support mechanisms that we will be implementing for them, and a letter has been sent home with more details."
