A WOMAN has been arrested after a man was stabbed in Newport.
Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were called to the Crispin pub, on Carisbrooke Road, around 9pm last night (Tuesday).
An ambulance service spokesperson said a man in his twenties had been stabbed in his right side and was taken to St Mary's Hospital for treatment.
A man who was drinking in the pub at the time of the incident told the County Press the victim was stabbed around 400m from the venue and walked into the pub for help.
He was given a bar towel to hold over the wound until the ambulance service arrived.
A 22-year-old woman from Newport was later arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and remains in custody.
A police spokesperson said: "We were called at 8.55pm on Tuesday, November 7 after a 26-year-old man was treated by an ambulance crew for a puncture wound to his chest.
"It is believed that he had been assaulted at an address on Caesars Road in Newport shortly beforehand.
"His condition is described as not life threatening."
