A drama group is hoping its recent move to new premises does not confuse its faithful audiences as it is due to present its next performance soon.

Auntie Jeanie's Drama Group is well known for rehearsing at the Methodist Church, in Hextable, but has now started meeting at the Scout Hall, in College Road, Wilmington. The group moved to the larger and more suitable site at the beginning of the month.

Jean Radford, who runs the group, said the 17 members are busier than ever. They are currently rehearsing for with the Swanley players for their forthcoming pantomime, Dick Whittington, which opens on January 26. Then, on February 2, they start rehearsals for their big show in May.

Mrs Radford is not a professional actress but said she has messed about on stage ever since she was "knee high to a duck".

She has shared her passion for all things theatrical with young people for 11 years: "We do it to give the children confidence the stage is a great confidence-builder."

The group meets every Saturday at 2.30pm and caters for seven to 12 year olds.

Mrs Radford said: "We start the children at seven but we never make them leave. They tend to go when they have had enough."

The weekly meetings are free. The group stages two performances each year as well as taking part in a pantomime. The children pay £5 for each of these shows, which covers the cost of their costumes, scripts and refreshments.
