A SPECIAL cricket match will be held at Shanklin Cricket Club to celebrate Martin Poynter’s contribution to the UK Fire Service cricket team.

Martin Poynter, who died aged 49 in March, was a much loved member of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, as well as a keen cricketer.

His funeral brought Newport to a standstill, with hundreds lining the streets to pay their respects.

From 12.30pm on Wednesday, a match will be held between old and current members of the UK Fire Service cricket team.
