FUNDRAISING for the RNLI has been 'given some welly' this month.

An actual yellow welly boot was the passenger in a classic Morgan three-wheeled car when it was taken to Bembridge Lifeboat Station from the RNLI's Inshore Lifeboat Centre at East Cowes as a precursor to the charity's 'Yellow Welly Week' which takes place from next Saturday (May 26).

The promotional event is where an RNLI welly boot is signed at each RNLI lifeboat station and relayed throughout the south of England, starting at Lyme Regis and finishing at Teddington Lock on the River Thames.

The boot was signed at East Cowes and Bembridge and sent on its way to Portsmouth RNLI. It was accompanied in the car by by Bembridge lifeboat coxswain, Steve Simmonds and then on from Bembridge harbour to Portsmouth by a motor boat, owned by Lifeboat Guild and Coastal Safety team member Peter Baxter, accompanied by Bembridge Lifeboat Guild vice-chairman, Noel Stimson.

The event culminates in the annual “Yellow Welly Week” event which will be held at Bembridge from Saturday, 26th May to Sunday 3rd June with a programme of educational and fun activities for all ages at the Lifeboat Station throughout the week.
