BUDDING snappers with an eye for the bold, bright and beautiful could see their work exhibited at one of the Island’s top galleries.
IW Pride organisers have launched a Capture Your Pride photography competition ahead of the Island’s first Pride event, which will be held in Ryde on July 15, with a parade, live music and entertainment.
Entries should be inspired by one of two broad themes, Pride on the IW or #LoveWins, with photographers encouraged to use their imagination to produce a prize-winning picture.
Entry is free for young people, while adults aged 14-plus will be asked for a donation towards IW Pride running costs. The shortlisted entries in each theme and age category will be printed, framed and exhibited at Dimbola Museum and Galleries, Freshwater, and all entries will be displayed digitally.
The winners will be announced on July 1.
IW Pride events co-ordinator Sue Burgin said: “This is a marvellous opportunity for photographers to take part in something a bit different. We have chosen two broad topics to really let the artists shine and use their imagination.
“Photographs may be used for publicity purposes and entrants could see their photograph being used in national LGBT publications. This could give amazing exposure to some of our up-and-coming photographers.”
Pride supporter Jonathan Sheath, of Wight Bride Photography, said: “As a photography company on the Island, we have been invited to take photographs at LGBT events and ceremonies.
“We are fully supportive of the community on the Island and feel this is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the true meaning behind Pride in an artistic way that can capture the imagination of the Island.”
Entries should be submitted by May 19.
