Ferry unfair on teenagers

Friday, November 24, 2017 - 11:35

From Sarah Andrews, Ryde:

Two weeks ago, I travelled with my 16-year-old daughter to Southampton and was refused ayouth ticket for her as she did not have any ID.

I explained she was a student and was told by a Red Funnelmember of staff that anyone can be a student.

So there was no misunderstanding, I explained further shewas a sixth form student and was told on the Red Funnel website it states ayouth needs ID to prove age .

Now as I have used Red Funnel many times I have no need togo on the website for a simple day trip as the timetable comes through thepost. My daughter showed her uni day photo on her phone that has the school sheattends and the date her sixth form course finishes but this was not acceptedas it had no birthdate .

I’m sure the member of staff was doing the job to the bestof her ability but I do think a bit of common sense could have prevailed onthis occasion as the customer service was severely lacking .

I travelled with my daughter six months ago when she was 15and was never asked for ID for her but somehow since then she has aged fiveyears according to Red Funnel and has to travel as a 20 year old.

Needless to say, my daughter was upset by the whole affairand it ruined what should have been a relaxing day out .

I have e-mailed Red Funnel and received no reply. That isgreat customer service.
