TWO of the borough's MPs are celebrating after gaining promotion in the shadow cabinet reshuffle.

New Conservative leader Iain Duncan Smith has announced a raft of new appointments in the wake of his successful leadership campaign.

Beckenham MP Jacqui Lait has landed a new role as the Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, while Eric Forth will become the new Shadow Leader of the House of Commons.

Commenting on her promotion, Mrs Lait said: "I am delighted. My primary objective will be to improve the Conservative Party's position in Scotland. I congratulate Iain on his election as leader of the Conservative Party and am sure the whole party will unite behind him and tackle this appalling Labour government."

Meanwhile, Bromley MP Mr Forth has secured promotion amid weeks of speculation. He was finally unveiled as the Shadow Leader of the House of Commons despite the role being originally offered to Andrew Lansley.

His new role entails the supervision of the business of parliament, ensuring the Conservatives make the best possible showing in the House of Commons.

He said: "If I could describe my perfect job this is it. It's an established position in politics and I am delighted to have this opportunity. Parliament is my big interest and I can't wait to get started."
