From Beverly Lakey, Niton:
Last week, IW Radio was broadcasting constantly about traffic problems in and around Newport.
This must, in part, be due to the influx of visitors in school holiday time, yet we have not yet reached the first bank holiday of the year.
Unseasonably good weather has likely contributed to the number of extra cars on our roads.
Imagine now the effect of a fixed link.
A good weekend forecast would not only bring the prebooked ferry traffic but in addition a vast amount of unplanned day trippers, mostly in cars.
I have come to the conclusion our road system could not cope.
The recent study into the feasibility already appears to be slanted towards those in favour of a fixed link.
I suggest all of those day trippers would come prepared with their picnics and would add little to the Island economy.
I, for one, would rather pay the cost of travel to keep our beautiful Island uncongested.
Our roads struggle to cope as it is, may I suggest anyone who seriously wants a fixed link go take a look at the M1.
