ST JUDE’S in Clarence Road, Shanklin, is an immaculate home with living space across three floors, off road parking, gardens and a certain presence.

Yes, presence. St Jude’s has that special something: it feels stately and historic, yet exudes a level of elegance that is not often seen in something built within the last 40 years or so.
It’s got style as well as substance and gloriously high ceilings.
For the first time since becoming the County Press property writer, I experienced property deja vu. Usually when I am despatched to view the many stunning properties on offer for this Property of the Week feature, my trusty A-Z makes an appearance.
However, as soon as I turned my car into Clarence Road, I knew where I was immediately in relation to St Jude’s.
To explain, I have actually recently visited St Jude’s…just not in the conventional way. I was fortunate enough to have a tour of this wonderful home using the wonders of the latest technology at our disposal. From Trigg’s Newport offices, I undertook a virtual reality (VR) tour of St Jude’s. I explored the property without stepping foot inside, and I liked what I saw.
I was already very impressed with this immaculate home from my virtual tour, but I was interested to see how a real rather than virtual viewing would differ.
So, it is with great satisfaction I can report that St Jude’s was just as exceptional in person as it was in techno-land.
There is plenty of space, greatly enhanced by the tall ceilings and lots of period touches such as the fireplaces, bay windows and Aga in the kitchen. All the rooms in St Jude’s feel homely and welcoming — it would be a joy to call this house “home”.
To the ground floor there is the entrance hall which leads to the lounge, the dining room and the 21ft kitchen/breakfast room. From here you can enjoy views across the garden as you while away the time in the kitchen. There is also a door into the garden and access to the cellar.
When you think of a cellar, you probably think of a dark and dingy space. Well, this was the total opposite. It is filled with light from the full- sized windows and is warm and clean. There’s a WC down here and plenty of storage, as well as access to the garden.
This floor of course lends itself to a utility space and store for odds and ends, but it could serve as flexible accommodation, perhaps masquerading as a home office or teenager’s den? There are certainly options.
Up on the first floor there are three good sized bedrooms, one of which has a built-in wardrobe, plus a single room. The family bathroom is large and beautifully decorated in sandy shades — a nice homage with the seaside not too far away.
All the bedrooms are in excellent order and have been very tastefully decorated. As a bonus, there is also a separate WC.
