What a waste!

Perhaps Cycler the recycling robot (News Shopper, June 13) should visit the local council offices and explain that residents of Bexley and Dartford would love to recycle. We are thwarted by a lack of co-operation at council level, as stickers are needed to gain entry to the council's site, regardless of what the minimum journey is. How much rubbish ends up in the bin because of this policy? In San Francisco recycling is taken very seriously. Residents leave a box with paper, card and plastics and waste collectors sort it.

Poor policy

I would like to bring to your attention to the behaviour and attitude of Sureway with regards to parking control. Recently, I parked in Ingleton Avenue, Welling, obeying a sign on the side of the road. I parked with two wheels on the pavement and came back to find the car had been ticketed. Cars may only be parked in this way within a white dotted box, I was informed. The sign does not acknowledge this fact, neither does the highway code. I have since appealed to Sureway but my claim has been dismissed.

Eye for an eye

I agree with Rupert Smythe, we must bring back the death penalty for murder (News Shopper, June 20). I was in favour of abolishing the death penalty, but I have changed my mind. It is right and just that those who take a life wilfully and with malice should forfeit their own. If we had a referendum the vote would be overwhelmingly for the re-introduction of the death penalty.

Bring it back!

We wish to support calls for the reintroduction of the death penalty (News Shopper, June 20). We also support longer sentences with no parole for other offences with hard labour. There has to be discipline in both the home and schools to beat the yob culture.

Many thanks

I am writing to agree with a mother who wrote in about the good work done by doctors at Darent Valley Hospital (News Shopper, June 13). The compassion they showed when my husband was very ill was wonderful. I thank them all.
