Bromley continued their good start to the season with a fourth straight win, this time in their Kent league One match against Ashford to put them to top of the table.

A try by Adrian Beckett after a good break by full-back Julian Ramsay was continued by wing Paddy Miller and Beckett steamed over with Jim McCall converting.

Another converted try by Beckett cemented Bromley's lead, but 10 minutes before the break Ashford replied with a converted try of their own, leaving Bromley leading 14-7 at the interval.

McCall added a penalty five minutes after the restart as Ashford began to infringe but they came back with a try wide out from a scrum near the Bromley line to reduce Bromley's lead to 17-12.

McCall again replied with another penalty but the visitors once again raised their game and added a converted try leaving the game poised at 20-19 in Bromley's favour.

However, the home side sealed victory in the fifth minute of injury time when Beckett ran in for his hat-trick to clinch a 25-19 win.

A good result against a Gillingham side unbeaten in the league last season next Saturday will prove to be a more difficult task.

Meanwhile, Bromley will host their eighth Mini Festival on Sunday, starting at 10.15am. Clubs competing include Richmond, Maidehead, Cambridge, Bishops Stortford, East Grinstead, Crowborough, Uckfield, Hertford and Gravesend, plus the host side, with teams from under 7 to 12 inclusive taking part. Spectators are welcome.

Having had a comfortable win in their previous game, Old Dunstonians were brought down to earth by a lively, well-drilled Sidcup side who scored six tries to one in a confident display, winning 37-13.

Two first-half tries from Richard Roddis and one from Spry gave Sidcup a 20-6 interval lead.

Nick Roddis, James Evans and Grant Vowls then powered over in the second pefriod to clinch an impressive 37-13 win for Sidcup.

Old Olavians maintained their 100 per cent record in their Kent 3 campaign with a tough 15-7 victory at Faversham.

Old Olavians started strongly down the slope and, from the kick off, Faversham gave away a penalty which was slotted over by Richard Whelan for an early 3-0 lead.

Despite a lot of pressure, it took Olaves another 20 minutes to increase their lead.

From a line-out on te five-metre line, Old Olavians drove forward and set up a rolling maul before Dan McMullen touched down, although Whelan missed the conversion.

Olaves continued to make use of the slope but failed to turn pressure into points until the stroke of half time. The ball went wide to Mike Clark, who used to his pace to round the winger before stepping inside the full back and touching down under the posts.

The conversion was slotted again by fly- half Whelan.

Old Olavians were caught napping straight after the break, when a well worked Faversham kick-off return broke the Olavians defence to score their only try.
