A Hayes man is celebrating after winning almost £102,000 worth of National Lottery funding for the community centre he runs.
Charles Farmer, 74, chairman of the Brookside Community Association, is delighted with the news that it will receive the cash to fund the building of an extension to the centre in Brookside Road, Hayes. Currently it provides accommodation to a range of groups including after school clubs, playgroups, scouts, pensioners, youth, and for Islamic education and prayer meetings and Bhangra dancing.
But Mr Farmer said he hoped to build a bowling alley and a new dining centre for pensioners and a snack bar for young people with the windfall.
Every week, more than 400 people visit the centre, which also includes the Park View Baptist Church.
'It's fantastic ,, we are very grateful and pleased to have this money,' said Mr Farmer.
'It took me one year and three months to fill in the lottery money application form.'
