Snow wipes out Island sport

THE adverse weather has wiped out the entire Island's football programme - and many other sports - this weekend.

Newport's fourth round FA Vase tie with Brighouse Town was the first fixture to fall foul of the heavy snow, and has been rescheduled for next Saturday, January 26.

By the afternoon, all the Island's Hampshire Cup, Harwoods Vauxhall IW Saturday League and IW Sunday League games had been called off.

The two Sydenhams Wessex League Division 1 matches, involving East Cowes Vics and Cowes Sports, were called off this evening (Friday).

And the snow has also forced the postponements of other sports.

In rugby, Sandown and Shanklin, Ventnor and IW are all out of action, while for the IW Hockey Club, the men's first team and their ladies' team have had their matches called off.

It is unclear whether Wightlink Raiders' home match with Bracknell Hornets will go ahead, but check our twitter feed @iwcpsport to get all the latest updates.
