East Thurrock Utd....3

Harlow Town............4

(after extra-time)

(FA Carlsberg Vase)

THERE is never a shortage of goals or entertainment when Harlow are in town but, on Saturday, Eddie McCluskey's team produced a performance that, even by their high standards, was a remarkable one.

With twenty minutes of this FA Carlsberg Vase clash with East Thurrock to play, Harlow looked down and out.

But in a remarkable finish, they smashed in three goals to take the tie to extra-time and the comeback was completed when Marc Salmon netted the winner with less than two minutes left.

McCluskey smiled: "My patience was running thin when we conceded the third goal, but once we got a goal back, we took the game over."

Thurrock made a storming start but squandered a host of chances and had just a one-goal lead at half-time.

Harlow had battled well but were finding it difficult to carve out any chances.

When Thurrock added another goal early in the second half, followed by their third on 67 minutes, it looked like the game was up.

Enter Wade Falana and Trevor Wilkinson, substitutions that turned the game.

Just seconds after their introduction, a glancing header from Neil Moore brought the score back to 3-1.

The second goal arrived five minutes later when Salmon intercepted a backpass and crossed for Falana to tap in. Another five minutes later and they were level, Samuels' cross finding Wayne Cort at the back post.

Cue extra-time, and for most of it, the players caught their breath from the previous events. That was until Salmon let fly with his screamer from outside the box, which zipped along the mud and left the Thurrock keeper motionless.

HARLOW TOWN: Turpin, Samuels, Nicholson (sub: Falana, 70min), Moore, Parkin, Leggatt, Walker, Kelly, Cort, Brewer (sub: Wilkinson, 70), Salmon. Subs not used: Crabb, Brotherton, Pinkett.
