ISLAND unemployment rose above the national average in January and was more than double the South-East average.
While the UK total climbed nearer the two million mark last month, Jobseeker’s Allowance claimants stood at 3,155, or four per cent, on the Island, compared to 3.2 per cent in December and 2.7 in November — a steeper rise than the rest of the South-East, where it stands at 2.4 per cent. The Island figure is 0.6 per cent above the national average.
