From Jon Boileau Goad, Niton;
Viktoria Vasyanovich has recently returned to her home in the Chernobyl region of the Ukraine after spending a month on the Island alone with a host family.
Vickie, aged 12, has asked that we try and thank all those individuals, organisations and businesses who were so kind and welcoming during her stay.
However, the list is immense and as her hosts, we hope that this open letter will be accepted in the spirit of things by all those concerned, some of whom, but not all as column inches are extremely limited, are alluded to below.
However, some are especially deserving having given a great deal of time and energy to ensure her well being and future success.
Thus special thanks to Niton Primary School who welcomed her and tutored her to provide a solid basis for the development of Vickie's spoken English. Her classmates at the school will always have a special place in her heart and she was honoured to join Daisy and Fleur, "the ladies that lunch", at the Niton Post Office and Tea Rooms (thank you Roger for an excellent meal!).
Monroe's of Shanklin who rolled out all the colours and the curlers to provide not just one but two pampering sessions par excellence and Chessell Pottery for the wonderful pottery painting session.
In equal portions, thanks to Scats, The Buddle Inn, Niton Country Stores, Monkey Haven, Maplins, Newport Dental Centre and all the mums, dads and children we kept meeting at Castlehaven beach.
Finally, you should all note that because of your generosity, ( a £60 baggage excess!)' Viktoria has returned home mentally and physically stronger for all the help she has received.
