LETTERS From: Name and address supplied but withheld:

I’D like to share a good news story. It involves an elderly lady, her dog, her hairdressers, police officers, firemen, ambulance staff and good neighbours.

On a dry, sunny Tuesday afternoon my sister set off to walk her dog. Her recollection is hazy but she fell and became trapped. The dog stayed with her throughout the next 30 hours. Do you remember the weather last Tuesday night?

Alerted by her hairdressers, Jaks, that she’d missed an appointment, I reported her missing. The police response was rapid, thorough, intelligent and kind. No, she didn’t have a mobile phone; it’s difficult to get a signal.

She was found alive in the dark, wet Wednesday evening. The fire brigade worked in a difficult environment and slid her to safety, down to the waiting ambulance. Praise be. And praise and thanks to our public services.
