Don't just get angry, get writing is the advice to anyone who sees un-taxed cars taking up precious parking spaces.

Residents in Brownlow Road in New Southgate are fuming at the number of vehicles without tax discs parked outside their homes.

One said: "It seems wrong that residents have to park on yellow lines and run the risk of getting a ticket while people who don't tax their cars are getting away with it."

But the Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) said there is no need to fume in silence.

A spokesman said: "We like people to write in and tell us where the problems are so we can deal with them."

DVLA wheelclamping units operate in London. Un-taxed cars are clamped and are not released until owners have bought a tax disc and paid a fine.

"The units respond to any hot spots where there are reports of a lot of un-taxed vehicles," the spokesman added.

Write, giving details of the car, registration number and location, to DVLA, Sidcup Enforcement Office, 12-18 Station Road, Sidcup, Kent, DA15 7DA.
