Dwayne Grant celebrated his selection for the Great Britain junior team for this weekend's international at Loughborough with a fine win in the 200 metres in a time of 21.9sec. Grant has been picked to run in the British 4x100-metre team and will also be allowed to race in a non-scoring sprint.

Samantha Singer is another who could soon be achieving international honours. She set a new championship best in the under 20s' 800 metres, taking nearly two seconds off the previous record, and she also took silver in the 400 metres.

The club's throwers were again in top form with Emily Oliver winning the under 17s' discus and Lisa Edwards second in both the under 20s' shot and discus. There was a one-two in the under 15 girls' shot from Sandra Alaneme and Anita Oliver, while Aaron Mulhern won silvers in the under 17 boys' shot and discus.

The championships always throw up some unexpected performances, and this year was no exception as Eve Bugler astonished herself and everyone watching as she won the under 15s' 800 metres, holding off some of the more fancied rivals on an

exciting last lap.

Tom Robinson's win in the under 17s 400 hurdles in 62.49sec was a personal best despite the last flight of hurdles being set at the the senior height! Undaunted by the sight of the higher barrier he negotiated it in control and strode on to victory.

Other wins on an outstanding weekend came in the under 20s from Katy Porter (100m hurdles) and James Proctor (high jump); in the under 17s 400m from Neil Simpson; and in the under 15s' from Alex Pope (pole vault) and Sandra Alaneme (high jump).

Meanwhile, at the Surrey Championships at Croydon Arena, Joseph Godsell set a new best of 2m 03sec in the under 17s 800m and was also second in the 400m in 53.1sec.

Two of the club's new Kent champions, Katy Porter and Tom Robinson, were scheduled to appear in last week's Energize programme on CITV, but the programme will now to be shown this Friday instead.
