MUCH-loved television actor Kevin Whately has added his name to the star-studded guest list for the Island’s glittering Minghella Movie Marathon weekend, from March 13 to 15.
Kevin rose to prominence with his role in the TV series Auf Wiedersehen Pet and Inspector Morse, and will be among the guests at the gala reception and screening of The English Patient, in which he also starred.
It has also been announced that Martin Freeman — well known for his appearances in TV series The Office — will attend, and introduce the film, Breaking and Entering, in which he also appeared.
He and Kevin join Jude Law, Alan Rickman, Michael Maloney and Lord David Puttnam, and many other film industry friends and colleagues, in celebrating the life and work of Anthony Minghella, who died a year ago.
Hollywood star Jude Law will introduce a screening of The Talented Mr Ripley on Saturday, then lead a discussion about Cold Mountain in a special ‘audience with Jude Law’ at Quay Arts later that day.
Meanwhile, organisers have announced that everyone who ‘runs the marathon’ by attending all the films at Medina Theatre and CineWorld over the weekend, will win an exclusive event poster signed by the celebrity guests.
Proceeds from the event will be distributed to charities supporting young people on the Isle of Wight, an issue which was close to Anthony’s heart.
An announcement will be made on Friday, March 13, about plans for a major annual event to honour Anthony Minghella’s legacy.
