Against the advice given by the head of highways, the borough of Richmond transport sub committee seemed determined to see Latchmere Lane closed.
The assumption must be that the criteria for road closure within the borough is for a road to have no more than a low to moderate volume of traffic, no accidents for the past 11 years, and a small but vociferous number of residents demanding such a closure.
If Latchmere Lane does indeed become closed I would imagine that just about every road in Richmond would make the same demands.
These selfish residents, who have taken to calling it "Our lane", seem to have forgotten that this suburban road straddles the borough boundary and is maintained at the expense of ratepayers from both Richmond and Kingston.
If successful in their bid to create this little Utopia, I take it they will be happy to bear the cost of any future maintenance, having effectively barred thousands of local ratepayers from using this public highway.
I further take it that having prevented me from using this road they will want to keep using Tudor Drive, or should I say "My road", or is that different!
