The Wu Quartet.
MUSIC The highly successful young string quartet, the Wu Quartet, are coming to the Memorial Hall, Freshwater, next Saturday, December 8, as part of the West Wight Arts Association’s 65th season.
The quartet have won many international competitions and have played in prestigious venues such as the Wigmore Hall, as well as being members of the European Chamber Music Academy.
The West Wight Arts trustees heard them at Brockenhurst in August and were much impressed.
The quartet, Qian Wu and Edward Brenton, violins, Matthew Kettle, viola and Joe Zeitlin, cello, will be playing Haydn’s quartet Op. 54 no 2 and Janacek’s passionate Quartet no 1, Kreutzer Sonata, based on Tolstoy’s short story, which in turn was inspired by Beethoven’s violin sonata of the same name. They will end the concert with Brahms’s beautiful Quartet no 1 in C minor, published in 1873.
Tickets are available from Totland Parish Office from Monday to Thursday from 9am and noon, phone 01983 756028 or e-mail email@example.com.
The concert starts at 7.30 pm. As a pre-Christmas treat, mulled wine and mince pies will be served after the concert.
