A SWANSCOMBE songstress says she will not let fame go to her head, despite her debut single going straight into the charts.

Emma Finch-Turner, 24, achieved her lifelong ambition when she appeared on Top of the Pops to wow millions of viewers with her group's song I Don't Wanna Lose My Way.

But the former Swanscombe Secondary School pupil, who fronts dance trio Dreamcatcher, says she is sure she will keep her feet on the ground despite reaching No 14 in the charts.

"I do not think I will change. I like to go to the local shop without people talking about what I buy," she joked.

"You won't find me advertising myself."

Emma, who grew up in Stanhope Road, wrote and recorded the hit song a year ago after being linked up with fellow band members Paul Castle and Simon Langford by EMI's dance label, Positiva.

The track went on to become a summer dance anthem across the Mediterranean's clubbing spots.

Now the cool-as-ice brunette is aiming for further chart success with a follow-up single, to be released in June, and an album by the end of the year.

And, despite the song sliding to No 26 on Sunday, Emma is still delighted with its success.

"We are still really buzzing about it and we are really pleased with it because we are still in the top 30," she said.

Emma, who lives with her computer programmer boyfriend in Fordel Road, Catford, says the appearance on Top of the Pops last Friday was "unbelievable".

"I was raring to go. The crowd was fantastic. It was absolutely brilliant. Being on Top of the Pops is a very surreal experience. It was one of the best things I have ever done," she said.

"It's the kind of job you think only happens to other people but I decided to go and make it happen."

The group plans to take part in Scotland's World DJ contest in March and is heading for the Mediterranean this summer to promote its songs.

Despite storming the charts last week, Emma still had time to visit her family in Swanscombe at the weekend.

Sister Libby Finch-Turner, 33, who says she is the band's biggest fan, said she was delighted for Emma, as was her seven-year-old son, Tom.

"He's very excited about his Aunty Emma being on Top of the Pops," she gushed.
