Young musicians take first steps on stage

Friday, December 14, 2012 - 10:14

MUSIC TOMORROW (Saturday), 250 young musicians will perform the last of two Christmas concerts presented by the IW Music Centre.
Last Saturday’s concert was attended by a large audience that included the IW High Sheriff, Nick Hayward. There were performances given by mainly string ensembles — soloists Rachelle Quelch, Esme Tilling, Rachel White, Sam Greenhaigh and Charlotte Tapsell with the beginning and junior string orchestra conducted by Sandra Carlile. This was the first concert experience for many of the young children.
Then came the intermediate-level music centre string orchestra, conducted by Michele Brock, followed by the keyboard ensemble, directed by Rich Wiseman. The foundation wind band, directed by Christine Axford and Robin Tweddle, was a rousing close to the first half.
The second half commenced with the IW Youth Choir, conducted by Michele Brock, followed by a varied and challenging programme performed by the senior youth string and full orchestras, conducted by Philip Chapman.
Tomorrow (Saturday) is the turn of the IW Youth Wind Band, Music Centre Wind Band with IW Youth Stage Band and recorder ensembles. The concert starts at 7pm at the Medina Theatre.
