THE massed marching bands of the Boys' and Girls' Brigades took to the streets of Woolwich last week, to mark the start of the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations.
The Boys' and Girls' Brigade London Massed Band was joined by the West Kent Boys' Brigade Band from Bexley and Eltham and the London Stedfast Association Bugle Band, formed by past members, officers and supporters.
About 150 musicians were joined by a colour party and a marching contingent, forming a parade of nearly 300 young people, half-a-mile long. Lots of people turned out on the streets to watch.
The band will feature in other jubilee celebrations in June and are raising money to fund a trip to Arnhem, Holland, made famous in the wartime epic A Bridge Too Far, where they will parade from The Hague to the British Embassy. They will also get some time off to visit one of the biggest theme parks in Europe.
