THE People's Postcode Lottery is about to reward its first People’s Millions Isle of Wight winners.
Everyone in the PO30 1 — which covers a large part of Newport — who plays the Postcode Lottery could be in line to share its £3m top prize — a first for the Isle of Wight.
Winners are set to receive a lucky gold invitation in the post today (Friday) and have been invited to attend a special event at Landguard Manor, Shanklin, on Saturday, next week, to find out how much they have won.
Cash raised from the lottery has gone to good causes in the UK and internationally including the Isle of Wight-based Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust which has received £525,000 to date from the charity lottery.
The funding has been used to increase the number of young people recovering from cancer who sail with the trust and more recently, is helping the trust buy a new boat.
The trust gives young people aged between eight and 24 the chance to rebuild their confidence through sailing. The trust works with every young person’s primary cancer care unit in the UK.
Dame Ellen MacArthur who founded the trust said: "Huge thanks to the players of People’s Postcode Lottery for supporting the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. It is so exciting that the Postcode Millions has arrived here on the Isle of Wight for the first time. Good luck to all the players."
People’s Postcode Lottery Ambassador and supporter of of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, Daryl Johnson, added: "I am so excited to be heading back to the IW.
"I’ve sailed with the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust on a number of occasions so it’ll be great to head to their headquarters for a visit while I’m down."
The ceremony begins at Landguard Manor at 10am.
