WITH just six days to go, Islanders have been urged to step up and donate, to make sure the Isle of Wight Christmas Toy Appeal reaches its target.

Organiser Deborah Rooke said: "Some of the stories that come out of the toy appeal are really heartbreaking. There are children who won't otherwise get a gift.

"We want to show them the Island cares about them."

Kathy Marriott, of children's services, said: "It really does make a difference for children and families going through difficulties."

So far, 1,173 toys have been donated.
