SENIOR Isle of Wight Councillors should answer questions in public, according to a leading opposition member.

After the Tories took control of County Hall following their election win, they axed members' question time — when cabinet members would take questions from the opposition — from full council meetings.

Labour Cllr Geoff Brodie has branded the move undemocratic, and called for members' questions to be reinstated.

"Even the prime minister and their cabinet are accountable to parliament through PMQs and regular ministerial questions, with the media and public in attendance." he said.

Cllr Brodie's motion is due to be discussed at a full council meeting on Wednesday, January 17.
