ARMED with flying saucers, fizzy cola bottles and jelly babies, Newport CE Primary School is off to the Isle of Wight Festival.

The PTA will have a pitch on site, The Old School Tuck Shop, selling favourite retro sweets to festival-goers.

In the biggest fundraising effort ever undertaken by the PTA, members hope to raise £60,000 to pay for a school building project.

Due to the Isle of Wight Council’s education reforms, the school will need four new classrooms to accommodate new pupils over the next two years and must raise ten per cent of the cost itself.

PTA chairman Skye Sydenham said: "If you are at this year’s festival, please come along and support us. Just think, if everyone put £1 in our pot we would be well on our way to our fundraising goal. We would be so grateful."
