THIRTY youngsters in Gravesend put household rubbish to good use by making colourful masks and sculptures.

Using last week's empty breakfast cereal packet, plastic bottles, cartons and anything else they could find, the children aged between five and 12 made their own masterpieces at Ordnance Road's Chantry School.

The fun was one of the 10 Grasshopper activities running through August to help children in Dartford and Gravesend learn more about the environment.

Jan Cooper, of playscheme operator Groundwork, said: “The children were amazed to discover just how many fantastic creations they could make.”
