I was not surprised to read that the Wembley Stadium fiasco continues to drag on, despite initial reports that the project was to be backed by all parties.
Why can't the government just commit itself to the project once and for all.
London, the capital of England, should have a national stadium we can all be proud of.
Almost every other capital city in Europe has one, yet sports fans are now facing an anxious wait to see if the London plan can go ahead.
Perish the thought that Birmingham, of all places, should gain from the capital's loss.
It is ironic that the government repeatedly backed the dead duck that was the Dome, and approved Terminal 5, citing jobs and the boost to the economy, in spite of the groundswell of opinion against it.
Yet here we have a plan that is backed by everyone in London who shares a love of sport, which would create jobs and enhance the economy, and yet the government is dragging its heels.
Instead of showing developers the red card over the ambitious plans, they should make the realisation of the project their ultimate goal.
