A LAND and sea search, launched after reports of a missing person, has tonight (Friday) located the body of a man on the rocks at the foot of the Isle of Wight's Culver Cliff.

Coastguard rescue teams from Bembridge and Ventnor were called to aid police in the search which carried on in failing light.

Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat was later assisted by Bembridge RNLI Lifeboat to recover the body at the foot of 280ft cliffs in worsening weather conditions and darkness.

Emergency services congregated in the viewpoint car park overlooking Bembridge and discovered the body at about 8.45pm at an area of cliff called The Nostrils.

The man's body was not recovered until 11pm and taken to Bembridge Harbour.
