LEWISHAM may become the Hollywood of south east London if interest from film and television-makers increases.

According to the newly appointed Lewisham film liaison officer, inquiries about various sites in the borough have tripled in the last month.

During November, scenes for two feature films including an Hollywood action blockbuster were shot at the unique Rivoli Ballroom, in Brockley.

The spy thriller, Eye Spy, starring Brad Pitt and Robert Redford was filmed back to back with a drama, Me without you, with Dawsons Creek star, Michelle Willams and Anna Friel.

The dance hall owners, Bill and Jeannie Mannix, say the venue in Brockley Road, has been a popular spot with producers and directors in the know since the mid-01990s.

Mr Mannix said: Brockley has been a hot spot for years, but we need to very discreet when we have a crew filming here being able to limit the amount of distractions is on of the attractions of our location.

Lewisham film liaison officer, Chris May, said: Lewisham offers a variety of locations programmes and advertising. From urban, industrial and even rural settings, Lewisham has it all.

This along with the locations being closer to London and shoots being relatively cheaper to produce in the area will continue to make Lewisham a film-making hot spot.
