SPECIAL needs pupils are set to benefit from a purpose-built school in Bellingham.
Lewisham Council planners have given the green light for the new Watergate School to be built on land off Lushington Road.
The school, currently situated in Church Grove, Ladywell, caters for 65 pupils. When it moves to its new building next autumn it will take 80.
The former Ballantyne council office site will have a one and a two-storey building, a sensory wildlife garden, play areas and 19 parking spaces.
Part of the design statement says the entrance, coach drop-off, playgrounds and building are made the same level to give full wheelchair accessibility.
