CYCLISTS were flying high after they raised around £3,000 for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
More than 50 cyclists took part in Recycle the Island, which started and finished at Tesco, Ryde, and was part of this year’s Isle of Wight Cycling Festival.
Both Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and the air sea rescue helicopters provided a spectacular sight as they landed in the overflow car park at Tesco for the start of the event.
Pilots and paramedics talked about the charities, while the Vectis Corps of Drums entertained as the riders left for either a 15-mile or 50-mile course. Along the way, the cyclists were raising awareness of the charity and its textile recycling schemes.
Money is still be being collected from Recycle the Island and anyone wishing to donate money can do so by calling 02380 333377 or visit www.hiow-airambulance.org.uk.
• Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has received £4,000 from the Freemasons’ grand charity, one of three grants issued to charities in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
