kew's friends: The Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew welcomed its 50,000 'friend' at a special ceremony on Easter Monday. Since the Friends' group was set up, in 1990, it has raised more than £700,000 towards features and equipment at Kew international conservation projects, supported by the Gardens.
royal sports: The courtyards at Hampton Court Palace will echo with the sounds of swords and skittles as the traditional sports favoured by King Henry VIII are brought to life. Visitors will be able to watch Georgian courtiers fight a fully-fledged duel and can learn about
the history of the sport and how it developed. The royal sports event will run until May 1. For details ring 020 8781 9500.
grant tribute: Richmond Park MP Jenny Tonge paid tribute to Labour MP Bernie Grant at his funeral, at Alexandra Palace, last week. Dr Tonge, who worked with Mr Grant on the international development select committee, was the only Lib Dem MP to make a personal tribute at the service.
