MORE THAN £13,000 was raised from the rearranged Wild West Solent Swim in aid of the West Wight Sports Centre on Saturday.
About 300 people were on shore to cheer in the 39 swimmers who took part in the event from Hurst Castle to Colwell Bay.
First back on shore was Chris Evertson, from Twickenham, and he was closely followed by Doug Alldred, from Atherfield.
However, fastest home was Natalie Bee from Newport.
The event was organised by the West Wight Sports Centre Trust, the charity which runs the centre.
Organiser Clare Griffin said: "We were originally looking at raising £12,500 but some of the swimmers have really collected a lot of money, so we should comfortable beat that, it’s brilliant."
The event was sponsored by Oakwood Energy Systems.
