Damien's mother: 'I think about him every day'

Tuesday, November 1, 2011 - 12:12

THE mother of missing Damien Nettles has told of the poignant timing of the police’s latest move in the investigation, the day before the 15th anniversary of his disappearance.
The police have arrested two people in connection with Damien’s disappearance on November 2, 1996, and are currently at an address in Marsh Road, Gurnard, where they are looking for a body.
From her home in Texas, Valerie Nettles said: "I think about Damien every day. Damien is with me all the time and so it is a little bit more poignant remembering what the day was like when he went missing.
"The day has more relevance. It is hard to say how I feel at the moment. If you think about it too much it could drive you insane.
"I have been hearing all kinds of stories about Damien over the past 15 years — rumours, Chinese whispers. Damien may have been the victim of a brutal, cold-blooded murder or maybe someone was off their head.
"He could have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time and something happened.
"I am encouraged by the way the police have dealt with the case and I am pleased with the police’s attitude. They keep me clued into what is going on.
"In the past, the police have dismissed possibilities as to what may have happened to him. That really made me see red."
