A DANCE event to protest against violence against women and raise cash for the Isle of Wight Women’s Refuge, is being held in Newport tomorrow (Thursday).

The Nia on the Wight dance group will add its support to the One Billion Rising worldwide event taking place across the globe where men and women are set to demonstrate against violence against women.

The event is also being held to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the founding of V-Day, a global activist movement that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of The Vagina Monologues — the award-winning play by Eve Ensler.

To date, the V-Day movement has raised more than $90m and educated millions about violence against women.

Nia on the Wight will be joining them and other Nia dance classes around the world to add their support, solidarity and to dance for a good cause.

The dance will take place at 5.30pm on Thursday, February 14, at the Scout Hall, Woodbine Close, Newport. All money raised will be donated to the Island women’s refuge.
