BURNHAM and Ashford Town fought out a goalless draw at the Gore this afternoon. Except for the beginning of the second half and the last 5 minutes of the match Burnham looked the more likely to break the deadlock in this match Burnham were reduced to 10 men when Craig O'Connor was dismissed 3 minutes before the break after a skirmish with Ashford's Aaron O'Leary. The first real chance of a game fell on 10 minutes to Ashford when Simon Elliot's header was blocked by Danny Honey and fell to Dave Hassett who was judged offside. On 13 minutes good football from Burnham saw a chance created by Frank McCormack only to see Grant Eaton unable to reach the cross. On 20 minutes Burnham went close again when a McCormack ball into the penalty area was hit goal wards by Ashford defender Ian Gibbs but goalkeeper John Whitehouse stayed alert to tidy up. Burnham continued to push forward with O'Connor seeking out fellow striker Reuben Howell and McCormack seeing his free kick find Nicky Campbell on the edge of the box but all to no avail.

On 34 minutes Ashford's Hassett sent in a dangerous looking free kick only for the Burnham defence to clear. On 42 minutes O'Connor who had battled with O'Leary for most of the half was dismissed from the field for kicking the defender. The one man advantage had saw Ashford came out strongly after the break with Adrian Stone forcing Honey to turn the ball round the post for a corner early on. Stone had a couple of more chances in the early minutes of the half heading wide an Ian Ross corner and running the ball out for a goal kick after an excellent through ball from John Nolan. Hassett then found Elliot unmarked in the box but his header was easily covered by Honey. Burnham introduced Micky Durkin on 67 minutes for Howell and he immediately started causing problems in the visitors defence. On 70 minutes another good corner from McCormack was headed goal ward by Terry Mitchell only for Whitehouse to save. The best chance of the game came on 76 minutes when Andrew Dugdale found Durkin whose shot across goal narrowly went wide. On 82 minutes Mitchell made a superb block to stop Hassett getting a shot in from 8 yards. Ashford then saw Stuart White who was pushed forward try to the game up. Firstly with players in the middle waiting he shot wide, then with only two minutes remaining Paul Brett stopped his shot reaching goal.
