Firefighters called to Yarmouth boatyard

FIREFIGHTERS were called after smoke was spotted at a property in Yarmouth this afternoon (Monday).

An Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman the incident, reported at 12.20pm, involved cables at the Sail Loft, River Yar Boatyard, Gas Works Lane.

Smoke was reported, although there were no flames according to the spokewoman.

Scottish and Southern Electric Power Distribution has been notified and engineers have been sent to the site, along with firefighters from from Yarmouth, Freshwater and Newport were sent to the scene at 12.20pm.

It is understood the electrical system may have been affected by recent flooding.
