Flood warning

By a County Press reporter

Thursday, December 5, 2013

PROPERTIES in Cowes and East Cowes could be at risk of flooding tonight (Thursday), the Environment Agency has warned.

It said that coastal areas could be affected, as well as tidal areas of Newport.

The Isle of Wight Council said on its Facebook page that properties close to the Floating Bridge could be affected and steps should be taken to protect homes.

Island Roads said sandbags were available from:

•The junction of Westhill Road and Easthill Road, Ryde

•The junction of Quay Street and Sea Street, Newport

•On the wall of County Hall car park, Newport

•Medina Road, Cowes (adjacent to the Floating Bridge)

•Well Road, East Cowes

•Simeon Rec, Ryde

•St Mary's car park, Cowes

High tide is expected to be in the early hours of tomorrow (Friday).

It is all due to AGW and nothing to do with high tides, low pressure and high wind speeds. Ride a bike.

The back pressure can effect large slow moving landslips as well. The "water table" back pressure that is. Thank gods no heavy rainy period for us. Eh?
