UPDATED FRIDAY 08:40*

A WARNING for heavy rain on the Isle of Wight on Friday has been issued by the Met Office.

*The 'be aware' warning was extended last night (Thursday) and is now in force until 6pm tonight (Friday).

The Isle of Wight Council has warned the heavy rain, high winds and high tidesĀ could cause flooding on parts of the Isle of Wight in the coming days.

The Met Office said: "Heavy rain is expected to spread northeastwards across the UK during Friday. The public should be aware of the possibility of local flooding and disruption to travel.."

The chief forecaster said: "Winds over coasts will gust over 45mph quite widely. Coupled with spring tides, this could lead to spray and over-topping of waves on exposed coasts."
