The Guardian sponsored event featured former World Champion Stephen Hendry and the whirlwind of London town Jimmy White.
The evening started with a one-frame showdown between Guardian competition winner Bobby Abbas and big break presenter John Virgo.
Virgo started well and knocked in a useful 23 and 24 to lead 47-17. Back came Abbas and trailed 47-29 with all bar one of the colours remaining.
Virgo potted green to blue to lead 59-29, before Abbas staged a late fightback and potted the final two balls - one a black off two cushions to bow out 65-48.
Then the main event of the evening, a best of nine frame challenge match between Hendry and White.
Hendry won the opening frame, 72-34 with a 50 break. White then replied to take the next two which featured a 101 break.
The fourth was one that Hendry will be kicking himself at not tying up in the opening stages.
White grabbed a 31-6 advantage with a 23 break. But White then allowed the seven times world champion to forge ahead 69-31 with a 62 break.
Hendry squandered the chance of levelling at the interval, but committed two needless fouls on the blue to give White a sniff at 69-42.
The crowd were on their feet as White fired in a frame winning 33 to take the spoils 75-69.
White continued the onslaught with a 98 to lead 4-1. But Hendry showed why he is the greatest player of the modern era with a 48 to reduce the arrears to 4-2.
Jimmy won the next with a 92 and although Hendry snatched the last two, White did enough to earn a 5-4 success.
The evening was concluded with a selection of trick shots from Virgo and the former UK Champion said the evening was an unrivalled success.
He said: "It was a tremendous night for all. The crowd were brilliant to all of us and hopefully we can do the same again next year."
