Football teams from Borehamwood gave a very good account of themselves at the Belmont United summer six-a-side tournament in Edgware at the weekend.

Hertsmere U8s' hard-working 'A' team won the U8s' final thanks to a 1-0 victory over Old Isleworthians. Hertsmere's goal was slotted in by Jake Dimmer.

Hertsmere's place in the U8s final was secured thanks to a 1-0 semi-final win over Hayes Youth. Lee Woodhouse netted for the As in this match.

However, reaching the semi-final was not an easy task for Hertsmere. They had to endure a tense penalty shoot-out in the quarter-finals.

The team featured Craig Clark, Alfie O'Connell, Callum Hall, Charlie Hunter, Jake Dimmer, Lee Woodhouse and Dennis Fraser.

Wood Boys FC's U7s won the tournament's U7 competition thanks to a 1-0 victory in the final against St Joseph's. On-fire Jordan Nicholson's superb half-volley sealed Wood Boys' victory.

Wood Boys defeated Brook House 'A' 4-0 in the semi-final thanks to goals from Rhys Parkinson, Billy Lobjoit and Anton Morgan.

The Wood Boys FC team featured Daniel Kohn, Mark Woodhouse, Alex English, Taylor Burgan, Dale Harris, Anton Morgan, Rhys Parkinson, Jordan Nicholson, Ryan Garvey and Billy Lobjoit.

Wood Boys FC manager Darren Parkinson said: "They were outstanding. No-one could touch them."

Mr Parkinson added that his squad has attracted interest from scouts at Arsenal, Watford and Chelsea.

Pinnacle Youth FC also took part in the Belmont tournament which saw more than 300 sides from Hertfordshire, London and Middlesex playing over two days. Pinnacle fielded teams in the U11, U13 and U14 categories.

Pinnacle's U14 'A' team reached the semi-final but were defeated 1-0 by Tufnell, who went on to win the U14 competition.

Pinnacle's two U13 squads, A and B, reached the finals of that age group. The A's were defeated 5-4 on penalties by Boreham Wood 2000 U13s and the B's were defeated 7-5 on penalties by Finchleians.

Youth's best penalty strikes were delivered by Douglas Kisuule in the A's game and Rui Octavio in the B's match.

Pinnacle's U11s reached the quarter-finals of their age group, but were beaten 2-0 by Ruislip Manor.

Cuthbert Martin, Pinnacle's head coach, said: "All the teams performed well, especially the U13s as both teams reached the finals."

Boreham Wood 2000's U13s' pick of the penalties during their clash with Youth came from Denis Paratusic, with a driving shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

Boreham Wood's place in the final was secured thanks to a 2-0 semi-final victory over Lyndhurst. Wood's goals in this match were scored by Danny Fitzgerald and Martin Wells.

Boreham Wood U13s' manager Mick Semken said: "They did very well considering it was a long day, and a very competitive event."

Boreham Wood 2000's U9s reached the semi-final of their age group at the tournament. However, they were defeated 1-0 during extra time by Hanwell 'A'.

This was an unfortunate outcome for the plucky Wood squad, who had emerged as 5-3 victors from a tense quarter-final clash with hosts Belmont 'C'.

The U9s' manager John Jennings said: "It would have been nice to have won our fourth tournament in a row, but three wins and a semi-final aren't bad.

"The hot weather took its toll on some of the lads in the semi-final. But with four tournaments still to play in, I'm sure there's still some more silverware to come."
