PLANS to pull down Sandown’s historic art deco cinema, The Rivoli, to make way for six new homes, have been submitted to Island planners.
The building, more than 130 years old, was used as a costume warehouse until 2014, when the owner moved to new premises.
A campaign to try to save The Rivoli, famous for its fan-shaped art deco facade, was launched by Island film maker, Bruce Webb, in 2013.
However, it came up short of the £160,000 cash target required to buy it.
The plans are for a pair of semi-detached three-bedroomed houses and a terrace of four with two bedrooms. They superceed a plan in 2015 for five homes.
So far, only Sandown Town Council has commented on the IW Council’s planning website — supporting the application.
No fresh campaigns to save the iconic landmark have been launched.
The closing date for comments is Friday, July 28.
