IT MAY be October on Saturday but the Isle of Wight is being hit by a heatwave.

The Met Office has forecast temperatures as high as 24C this weekend, with low winds and bright sunshine.

It could be a welcome boost for businesses on the Island, with hopes the weather could lead to a surge in visitors as people look to make the most of the weather.

Simon Dabell, tourism chairman at the Chamber of Commerce, Tourism and Industry, said the weather was good news for the Island: "It’s nice to have good weather any time of the year."

At the Isle of Wight Zoo they were also hoping for a busy weekend.

"We have already seen fuller buses coming to the zoo this week, so we hope it should be a good weekend. It’s near the end of the season but we have still got a lot going on," said Sonia Mitchell.
